Teachers' Corner

Humane Education examines the relationship between humans and animals. It helps children to develop kindness, sensitivity, empathy, appreciation and responsibility toward all living creatures.

The Ottawa Humane Society has delivered its successful school program for students throughout Ottawa for many years. The Humane Education Program (Ages 4-16) consists of presentations on a variety of animal welfare topics and responsible pet ownership.

Our program aims to motivate youth to be empathetic, respectful and kind towards all living things, big and small. Through our humane education initiatives we strive to prevent future neglect, cruelty and abandonment of furry friends, by emphasizing the value of respect and responsibility for all animals.

Teachers can book a two-member team of volunteer humane educators to come out to your classroom this year, completely free of charge! Our humane education presentations enhance the existing curriculum, last approximately one-hour, and when possible, involve a supervised interaction with one of our temperament-tested companion animals.

To book a humane education presentation, please fill out our online booking request form.
